UPDATE 1-Poland's PERN Plans to Extend Gdansk Oil Terminal by 2020

October 15, 2019 [Reuters] - Poland’s pipeline operator PERN plans to more than double the capacity of Gdansk Oil Terminal, the company said on Monday.

PERN has launched a tender procedure to extend the terminal, which would see its oil storage capacity increase by more than 2.5 million barrels of crude oil from 2.36 million barrels.

PERN plans to build five tanks and complete the investment at the turn of August and September 2020, it said.

It is a second stage of development of the terminal. The first stage, the construction of two oil tanks, is set to be completed in April 2020.

Poland is seeking to reduce its reliance on Russian oil supplies. Its biggest refiner, PKN Orlen, expects a first shipment of Nigerian crude next month, its CEO told Reuters.

“The Polish market is becoming more and more open to deliveries from different suppliers. Our refineries carry out global investments, which allow (the) deepening (of) their processing with the use of crude oil other than Russian,” Igor Wasilewski, president of PERN, said.
