August 25, 2026 [Storage Terminals Magazine]- McDermott has been awarded a mega engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract by ADNOC for Package 4 of the Umm Shaif Integrated Gas Cap and Surface Pressure Boosting (SPB) Project.
The project forms a key part of the Umm Shaif Long Term Development Plan (LTDP), which aims to maximize gas recovery from the field and increase production.
Under the contract, McDermott and its Qingdao McDermott Wuchuan (QMW) consortium will execute the complete EPCI scope for a new surface pressure boosting facility. This includes the construction and installation of a jacket and topside, together with associated brownfield modifications. Once completed, the topside is expected to rank among the heaviest offshore modules ever installed in the Middle East.
McDermott Senior Vice President, Offshore Middle East, Mike Sutherland, said the award demonstrates ADNOC’s confidence in the company’s ability to safely and efficiently deliver complex offshore developments. He added that McDermott’s regional experience and integrated execution capabilities would support ADNOC’s production objectives and contribute to the UAE’s long-term energy ambitions.
McDermott Vice President of Operations, Offshore Middle East, Angela De Vincentis, said the company was proud to expand its role in the development of the Umm Shaif field, supporting ADNOC’s vision for sustainable energy growth.
Engineering and project management activities will be led from McDermott’s offices in the United Arab Emirates, while fabrication will take place at QMW, McDermott’s joint venture fabrication yard in Qingdao, China.
McDermott defines a mega contract as one with a value exceeding USD 1 billion.
