Aegis Group Commences Operations at India’s First Independent Ammonia Storage Terminal
08.12.2026 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

August 12, 2026 [Storage Terminals Magazine]- A significant milestone has been achieved in India’s evolving energy infrastructure landscape as Aegis Group has commenced operations at the country’s first independent ammonia storage terminal at Pipavav Port.

The terminal has a static storage capacity of 36,000 metric tonnes, establishing a dedicated infrastructure asset to support the handling and storage of ammonia at one of India’s key maritime gateways.

The commencement of operations marks an important step in Aegis Group’s expansion into emerging energy infrastructure. As global and domestic energy systems continue to evolve, ammonia is gaining increasing attention for its potential role in cleaner energy pathways, including as an energy carrier and as part of the broader transition towards lower-carbon energy solutions.

Located at Pipavav Port, the new terminal strengthens the infrastructure available for ammonia storage and contributes to the development of capabilities needed to support India’s changing energy requirements. Its substantial storage capacity is also expected to enhance the flexibility and efficiency of ammonia supply and distribution.

For Aegis Group, the project represents more than the addition of new storage capacity. It reflects the company’s broader focus on developing infrastructure aligned with emerging energy needs and supporting the transition towards more sustainable solutions.

The commencement of operations at the 36,000 MT facility underscores Aegis Group’s growing capabilities in emerging energy infrastructure and reinforces its commitment to contributing to cleaner energy pathways and more sustainable infrastructure development in India.

As the country continues to pursue its long-term energy transition ambitions, investments in specialised infrastructure such as ammonia storage terminals are likely to play an increasingly important role. Aegis Group’s new facility at Pipavav therefore represents a notable development in the infrastructure supporting India’s future energy landscape.
