September 11, 2026. According to OilPrice.com, Southeast Asia’s AI and data-center boom could lift annual LNG demand growth by 16% through 2035, as gas provides reliable 24/7 power.
Wood Mackenzie says Southeast Asia’s data-center boom could lift annual LNG demand growth 16% through 2035, as CCGT remains the practical 24/7 power source while grid-scale batteries stay immature.
The regional data-center pipeline could more than triple to 9.4 GW by 2035 (from 2.8 GW), pushing hyperscaler power use from 17 TWh to 57 TWh—creditworthy, cycle-stable offtake that changes the risk case for new LNG supply.
Singapore (already ~95% gas) could be 100% LNG by 2035 as piped imports from Indonesia and Malaysia fade; Thailand’s LNG share of gas supply could exceed 50% as Myanmar pipe gas and Gulf of Thailand production decline.
Malaysia is adding 3.9 GW of data-center capacity and new LNG regas terminals just as domestic gas peaks—so more import infrastructure, not more local molecules, will feed the grid.
India is the exception: ~12 GW of data centers by 2035 is expected to run on renewables-plus-storage (already 33 GW of C&I PPAs), keeping gas under 2% of power; Shell still sees global LNG demand near 700 Mt by 2050, though 2026 growth is stalled by Hormuz.
