September 04, 2026 [Storage Terminals Magazine]- Axens has been selected by Argentine energy company YPF to implement a 5,000 m³/day low-sulphur diesel hydrotreater (DHT) at YPF’s Industrial Complex in Argentina.
The project will use Axens’ Prime-D™ technology, which is designed for the production of ultra-low-sulphur diesel.
The unit will be supplied in prefabricated modular form as part of a fast-track project intended to minimise construction activity at the refinery while allowing existing operations to continue.
According to Axens, the modular approach is expected to reduce the overall project delivery schedule by approximately six months compared with conventional stick-built construction.
The pressure vessels, structural components, piping and instrumentation will be integrated into modules at a dedicated fabrication yard before being transported to the refinery site. The approach is intended to reduce the amount of work required at the site and limit potential disruption from simultaneous construction and refinery activities.
Prime-D™ is Axens’ diesel hydrotreating technology for reducing sulphur content in diesel streams. The company said the technology has been deployed across a number of industrial applications internationally.
The award also builds on Axens’ previous experience delivering modular projects in Argentina.
The project forms part of YPF’s efforts to increase and upgrade its diesel production capabilities at its refining operations. The company has not disclosed a targeted start-up date for the new unit.
Axens provides refining, petrochemical, gas treatment and energy-transition technologies, as well as equipment, catalysts, adsorbents, modular units and associated services. The company is part of the IFP Energies Nouvelles Group.
