Cheniere Announces Substantial Completion of CCL Stage 3 Project, Production and Export of 5,000th LNG Cargo
09.02.2026 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

September 02, 2026 [Storage Terminals Magazine]- Cheniere Energy has reached substantial completion of its Corpus Christi Liquefaction Stage 3 (CCL Stage 3) project in Texas, while also marking the export of its 5,000th LNG cargo from its US Gulf Coast operations.

The two milestones were announced as Cheniere continues to expand its position in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market. The company said it reached the 5,000-cargo milestone faster than any other LNG producer worldwide.

CCL Stage 3 achieved substantial completion on August 28th, following the handover of care, custody and control of the project’s seventh and final liquefaction train to Cheniere by engineering, procurement and construction contractor Bechtel Energy.

Cheniere issued the full notice to proceed to Bechtel for the Stage 3 project in June 2022. The first LNG production from the project was achieved in December 2024.

The seven-train development increases Cheniere’s LNG production capacity by more than 20 percent, bringing its total capacity to approximately 56 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).

Cheniere Chairman, President and CEO Jack Fusco said the completion of the project demonstrated the companies’ ability to deliver major LNG infrastructure projects safely and ahead of schedule.

5,000th LNG Cargo

Cheniere also reached its 5,000th LNG cargo milestone with the loading of the LNG carrier Yari LNG at the company’s Sabine Pass facility on August 29th. The vessel subsequently departed for Asia.

Since producing its first LNG cargo in 2016, Cheniere has supplied more than 340 million tonnes of LNG to markets around the world. The company’s LNG platform now accounts for more than 10 percent of global LNG liquefaction capacity.

The latest milestone comes as global LNG infrastructure continues to expand in response to demand for natural gas, particularly in markets seeking reliable energy supplies and lower-emissions alternatives to more carbon-intensive fuels.

Fusco said the achievement reflected the contribution of Cheniere’s workforce and its focus on operational performance, safety and customer service.

With CCL Stage 3 now substantially complete, Cheniere has added significant additional liquefaction capacity to its US Gulf Coast operations, further strengthening the company’s role as a major LNG supplier to international markets.
