[September 19, 2026] – According to OilPrice.com, Chevron is hunting more gas and LNG options in Argentina, the East Mediterranean, Africa and Australia so it can sell buyers a supply mix that does not hang on a single shipping chokepoint.
“What we’re seeing from this crisis is that it just reinforces the need for diversity — diversity of supply and diversity of different contracting structures,” Shaheen told Reuters.
The push follows the Middle East conflict trapping LNG from Qatar and the UAE; Global Gas president Freeman Shaheen said the crisis has reinforced demand for both diverse sources and more flexible contract structures.
In Australia the company already runs Gorgon (15.6 mtpa, the country’s largest) and Wheatstone (8.9 mtpa); together they equal about 5% of global LNG supply.
In Argentina it is expanding in Vaca Muerta shale; in the East Med it is building an exploration-block portfolio off Greece and Cyprus.
In Africa it is stepping up exploration, including a Block 0 condensate discovery off Angola with more than 2,000 feet of hydrocarbons that could tie into existing production infrastructure—though Shaheen did not name which projects will get the next FIDs.
