September 9, 2022 [Tank Store Mag] – China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) has finished raising the roofs of three out of its six LNG storage tanks, at the Binhai LNG import terminal in Jiangsu.

The three tanks underwent construction, where they were lifted simultaneously using air pressure to a height of approximately 60 metres.

The three tanks will each have a capacity of 270,000 cbm and add to the already four existing tanks, that have a capacity of 220,000 cbm in Yancheng Binhai Port Industrial Park.

CNOOC claims that this is the first time, in the world, that three 270,000 cbm LNG storage tanks have been simultaneously roofed.

In addition, it also claims that these are the world’s largest LNG storage tanks yet.

Following completion, due in 2023, the LNG terminal will have a capacity of 6 million tonnes of LNG, which is about 8.5 million cubic metres of natural gas. This would be a major development as it would be enough to cover the natural gas demand in Jiangsu province within 28 months, according to CNOOC.
