May 31, 2012 [Prensa Latina] - As part of its oil infrastructure improvement, Cuba seeks greater capacity to store oil by repairing and recovering high-volume tanks, official sources said yesterday.

The actions focus on the main Cuba’s trading company CUBAPETROLEO, located in the western province of Matanzas, where progresses the recovery of tanks of 50,000 cubic meters, according to a report from the National TV News (NTV).

Meanwhile, engineer Joel Roque said that the maintenance and recovery of the tanks needs materials for the cover and structure made from modern technology.

These works, according to the manufacturer, guarantee a durability of 20 or 25 years more, which is above average, Roque told NTV.

Recently, the Matanzas Oil Company also announced the addition of a new wastewater treatment plant.

A five-pier plant, that has the capacity to receive large oil tankers with a cargo of up to 180000 tons and 20 meters deep, was equipped with high technology that ensures greater environmental protection, said the director Zoraime Mendez.
