September 17, 2012 [The Star Online] The consortium comprising of Dialog Group Bhd, the Johor Government and Royal Vopak will invest RM4.08bil to develop the Pengerang LNG terminal project.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak said on Thursday the project would include an LNG storage, loading and regasification terminal to import LNG for trading purposes and for the domestic usage.

The terminal will be the first independent LNG Trading Terminal in Asia, allowing multiple LNG users to store and trade the product. This will spur the growth of the industry, and help establish Malaysia as Asia’s LNG trading hub,” he said.

In an update of the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP), Najib said the project is part of the government’s oil and gas and energy NKEA (new key economic area).

The project would allow multiple liquefied natural gas users to store and trade the product.

The project was one of the seven announced by the Prime Minister with a total investment value of RM5.607bil, a projected GNI of RM2.361bil, and creating 18,522 new jobs.
