August 24, 2026 [Storage Terminals Magazine]- Automation technology company Emerson has entered into a new strategic collaboration with Equinor to provide measurement instrumentation technologies and lifecycle services across the energy company’s global offshore and onshore operations.
The agreement is aimed at supporting Equinor’s efforts to improve operational performance, extend the productive life of existing fields and increase recovery while advancing greater standardisation across its operations.
Under the collaboration, Emerson will supply measurement instrumentation and analytical technologies alongside associated lifecycle services. The portfolio is expected to support a range of applications as Equinor works to accelerate field development, optimise production and improve operational efficiency across its assets.
The agreement builds on a relationship between the two companies that spans more than four decades. During that time, Equinor has deployed a broad range of Emerson automation technologies, including subsea multiphase flow meters, downhole monitoring systems, valves, emissions management systems and control and asset management systems.
Emerson also supplies Equinor with safety, pressure and temperature measurement instrumentation, forming part of the technology infrastructure used across the company’s operations.
The latest collaboration expands on existing digitalisation initiatives between the companies and is intended to support Equinor’s longer-term operational objectives, including initiatives associated with its Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) 2035 plans.
According to Emerson, the expanded relationship will focus on applying measurement technologies to improve production performance, reliability and operational safety across Equinor’s assets.
The agreement reflects a wider industry focus on using automation, digitalisation and advanced measurement technologies to improve the performance of both mature and developing energy assets. For operators with geographically diverse portfolios, standardised technologies and lifecycle support can also help simplify operations and improve consistency across facilities.
Emerson said the collaboration will build on its established relationship with Equinor while supporting the operator’s focus on safe, efficient and increasingly standardised operations across its global portfolio.
