Grain LNG Appoints Peter Abdo as Chief Executive Officer

August 14, 2026 [Storage Terminals Magazine]- Grain LNG, the UK’s largest LNG import terminal, has announced the appointment of energy industry executive Peter Abdo as chief executive officer, effective October 1st.

Grain LNG is jointly owned on a 50/50 basis by Centrica plc and Energy Capital Partners (ECP).

Abdo brings more than 30 years of experience across the global LNG, natural gas, power and commodities markets. He joins Grain LNG from Uniper, where he most recently served as chief commercial officer, LNG and Global Origination, overseeing the company’s global LNG activities, including trading, origination and shipping.

During his time at Uniper, Abdo was closely involved in the company’s response to the disruption of Russian pipeline gas supplies and the development of alternative LNG supply arrangements for Germany.

Before joining Uniper in 2017, Abdo spent around a decade with Bank of America Merrill Lynch Commodities, where he held the position of senior managing director. His career has included senior roles and experience across Europe, Asia and the United States, giving him extensive international relationships across the energy and LNG sectors.

Martin Scargill, chair of the Grain LNG Board and managing director of Centrica’s gas infrastructure business, said Abdo’s extensive knowledge of the global LNG market and experience managing complex international energy businesses would support Grain LNG’s next phase of growth. He also highlighted Abdo’s commercial expertise, strategic outlook and customer-focused approach.

ECP Partner and Grain LNG Board member Matt Delaney said the company was looking forward to Abdo leading Grain LNG’s workforce and building on the terminal’s existing position as a key UK energy infrastructure asset.

Commenting on his appointment, Abdo said he was pleased to be joining Grain LNG and leading what he described as one of Europe’s critical energy infrastructure businesses.

He said his priorities would include maintaining Grain LNG’s strong safety and reliability record, working with its employees and investors, and exploring opportunities to diversify the terminal’s strategic capabilities and serve customers across the energy value chain.

The leadership change follows the departure of Simon Culkin from his role as managing director on August 14th. Grain LNG’s Chief Financial Officer, Richard Ozsanlav, will serve as interim CEO until Abdo takes up his position on October 1st.

Culkin has played a significant role in Grain LNG’s development, helping oversee the terminal’s growth from its early stages into what is now Europe’s largest LNG import terminal.

Grain LNG’s board and shareholders thanked Culkin for his contribution to the business, recognising his leadership and commitment to the company, its employees, customers and the communities in which it operates.
