August 26, 2026 [Storage Terminals Magazine]- INEOS Inovyn has agreed to acquire the remaining 50 percent shareholding in Runcorn MCP Limited, along with the assets and employees associated with EDC production at Runcorn from Vynova Runcorn Limited, following the latter’s entry into administration in 2025.
The acquisition remains subject to the completion of the necessary legal and regulatory processes and is expected to close later this year.
Once completed, the transaction will fully integrate the chlor-alkali and EDC value chain under INEOS Inovyn. The company said the integration will strengthen the long-term future of the Runcorn site while enhancing security of supply for customers.
Runcorn plays a critical role in the UK’s water treatment infrastructure, supplying around 98 percent of the chlorine used in drinking water treatment.
The acquisition is also expected to help safeguard the continuity of strategically important chlor-alkali operations in the UK. Chlor-alkali products are essential to water treatment and food manufacturing and are used across industries including pharmaceuticals, healthcare and construction.
INEOS Inovyn said strengthening the UK’s chlor-alkali infrastructure is important to maintaining strategic autonomy, supporting national resilience and securing supplies of products essential to critical industries and public services.
