Marquis to Expand Missouri Rail-to-Barge Crude Oil Terminal

April 2, 2013 [OPIS] - Marquis Missouri Terminal LLC said on Monday that it is proceeding with construction plans to expand its rail-to-barge crude oil terminal located at mile 850 on the lower Mississippi River near Caruthersville, Mo.

It is anticipated that construction will be complete by the end of summer 2013. Marquis Missouri Terminal LLC ships 118-car unit trains across the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad into their terminal and transfers crude oil into barges.

The crude oil is delivered directly by tank barge to refiners’ docks on the Mississippi River and the U.S. Gulf Coast. Marquis Inc. buys and sells crude oil as well as provides throughput for both crude oil producers and refiners.

The terminal opened in October 2012 and has reached capacity of its initial design. According to Marquis Energy’s website, the Hayti, Mo., terminal handles seven unit trains a week via BNSF Direct. The terminal also has a 550,000-bbl storage capacity.

Mark Marquis, president of Marquis Inc., acknowledges Lester Smith, terminal manager at Marquis Missouri Terminal LLC, and the Marquis construction team for expediting the construction and startup of the facility.

The expansion doubles the throughput capacity and includes construction of an additional barge dock in the Pemiscot County Port Authority slip.

The terminal expansion project was coordinated with the Pemiscot County Port Authority and its vice president, John Ferguson II.

The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad marketing group also assisted in developing mutually beneficial relationships between the nine terminals in the Bakken Shale Oil Field and the Marquis group.
