February 5, 2010 [TankTerminals.com] – Oiltanking in Terneuzen is ready to expand the capacity substatially. The environmental permit for the expansion has recently be granted.

Oiltanking Terneuzen is operational at the Mosselbanken near the DOW complex for five years. The terminal’s current capacity is 155,000 m³. The terminal already had a permit to expand to 340,000 m³. On the basis of the new environmental permit this has now been raised to 490,100 m³. Terminal manager Marc Tesselaar stated: “We have applied for the new permit to be able to respond swiftly to new market demand”. “We are now in a position to start immediately with the construction of tanks in case of new contracts”. Also, the market is now asking for larger tanks. Tesselaar is optimistic about the future. According to Tesselaar there is a continuously growing demand for storage capacity for oil products in particular due to a further concentration of refinery activities in the Middle East and the necessity to absorb the fluctuations in supply and the prices as a consequence of that. Meanwhile, also the port management Zeeland Seaports has agreed to expand the Oiltanking jetty to accommodate more ships simultaneously. Tesselaar cannot yet indicate when this will happen. “But I see light at the end of the tunnel”, he said.
