01.28.2013 - NEWS

January 28, 2013 [Port of Skagen] - The global renowned oil trading company Monjasa, has with immediate effect entered a significant and important agreement with the Port of Skagen about construction and operation of a tank terminal for oil products within marine fuels to vessels in and around the port, which will boost the port’s and Monjasa’s activities.

The Port of Skagen and the oil trading company Monjasa A/S has entered an agreement on construction and operation of a tank terminal based at the Port of Skagen. The agreement is a long term commitment, which means that the Port of Skagen constructs the terminal facilities and that Monjasa leases and operates the tank terminal.

The tank terminal will be used as storage for oil products within marine fuels to vessels inside and outside of the Port of Skagen.

Director of the Port, Mr. Willy Bent Hansen is happy with the agreement:
– This is a result of a long term and strategic effort to develop new business segments creating growth and supporting the port’s core business within the fishery sector. The Port of Skagen has for several years been working towards port development in order to create a foundation for growing new activities, he says and continues:
– The agreement and the future activity is a central part of the port’s business plan for the coming expansion of the Port of Skagen, with which we are working intensively. The agreement with Monjasa supports the creation of a solid basis for the coming port expansion and will onwards create revenues for a number of the port’s service companies. The Port of Skagen will become more attractive for vessels, since there is a parallel spin-off concerning the possibility to discharge slop oils to tank facilities at the port. With the new facilities numerous advantages are being created for the shipping industry.

The services of Monjasa include all aspects of bunkering, lubricants and oil trading. Monjasa is renowned globally for their ability to supply high quality and service in some of the world’s most challenging areas; The Middle East, West Africa and The Baltic.

CEO of Monjasa, Jan Jacobsen, comments:
– Our company has a goal of creating increased market share in the bunkering market in and around Skagen. The Port of Skagen is considered to be particularly well positioned geographically and for that reason has a good platform to develop business inside and outside the port area.
Jan Jacobsen comments that the timing of the agreement seems to be optimal, since the commercial shipping markets are showing signs of recovery from a depressed market since 2008. In addition he points at potentially more possibilities of extended cooperations with benefit to both parties. Monjasa has great expectations to what they can perform in the Scandinavian region with a base in Skagen.

The technical work with projection and approval of the terminal is being started in the nearest future. The completion of the tank terminal is expected to be during the course of 2014.
