px Group Selected to Operate New Providence Gas LNG Terminal in The Bahamas

August 27, 2026 [Storage Terminals Magazine]- px Group has been appointed by New Providence Gas Limited as the operations and maintenance partner for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) import and regasification terminal being developed at Clifton Pier in New Providence, The Bahamas.

Under the multi-year agreement, px Group will support the terminal’s commissioning and operational readiness before assuming responsibility for its long-term operation and maintenance. The appointment expands px Group’s presence across the Americas and adds an LNG asset to its international operations portfolio.

px Group is a portfolio company of Ara Partners, a global private equity and infrastructure firm focused on decarbonising the industrial economy.

New Providence Gas Limited is a joint venture between Shell, which holds a 40 percent interest, and Sun Oil Limited, a subsidiary of FOCOL Holdings Limited, which owns the remaining 60 percent.

The Clifton Pier terminal is being developed to receive, store and regasify LNG before supplying natural gas to power-generation facilities on New Providence. The project is intended to increase fuel diversity and energy security while providing a lower-emissions alternative to the fuel oil and diesel currently used for much of the island’s electricity generation.

Geoff Holmes, chief executive officer of px Group, said the appointment represented an important step in the company’s continued expansion across the Americas. He said px Group’s role would begin before start-up, with the company preparing the facility, its systems and operating organisation for safe and reliable service before taking responsibility for long-term operations.

To deliver the contract, px Group has established px Bahamas, a locally incorporated operating company that will develop and manage the team responsible for the terminal’s day-to-day operation and maintenance.

A plant manager is already based in New Providence, while px Bahamas plans to recruit Bahamian operators, technicians and other skilled professionals as the project progresses towards commissioning and start-up. The company will also establish the operational procedures, safety systems and technical capabilities required to support the terminal over the long term.

Dexter Adderley, president and chief executive officer of FOCOL Holdings Limited, said px Group’s operational experience and plans to develop a local workforce would be important to the project’s success.

He said the terminal’s performance would ultimately be measured by its safety, reliability and consistency, adding that px Group’s experience would help take the facility from commissioning through to long-term operation. He also highlighted the combination of international operating expertise and local capability as an important factor in the long-term success of New Providence Gas.

The New Providence Gas appointment builds on px Group’s expanding activities across North America and the Caribbean, where it provides commissioning, start-up, operational readiness, operations and maintenance, engineering and asset-management services to asset owners and developers.

The project will also establish a long-term operating presence for px Group in The Bahamas, combining its international infrastructure experience with a locally based team.
