August 18, 2026 [Storage Terminals Magazine]- WhiteWater, together with Devon Energy Corporation, MPLX LP, Diamondback Energy and Western Midstream Partners, has reached a positive final investment decision (FID) to develop the Solitude Pipeline System.
The project will comprise two 48-inch natural gas pipelines, each connecting the Permian Basin with Katy, Texas. The development has secured substantial long-term firm transportation agreements, primarily with investment-grade shippers, supporting the decision to proceed with construction.
Solitude is being developed to provide scalable, long-haul natural gas transportation capacity to support continued growth in the Permian Basin and increasing demand along the Gulf Coast.
The pipeline system will be developed in phases, with an initial capacity of approximately 2.25 Bcf/d expected in late 2029, followed by a further 2.25 Bcf/d in 2030. The system has also been designed to allow capacity to increase beyond these levels in response to future shipper demand. The timing of additional capacity could be accelerated or deferred depending on market conditions.
The project is expected to enter service during the second half of 2029, subject to customary regulatory and other approvals.
Under the joint venture structure, WhiteWater will hold a 50 percent interest, with Devon Energy holding 25 percent, MPLX 10 percent, Diamondback Energy 7.5 percent and Western Midstream Partners 7.5 percent. I Squared Capital and FIC Partners Management are also partners in WhiteWater’s investment in Solitude.
