August 11, 2026 [Storage Terminals Magazine]- Technip Energies has been awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for the Yan Offshore Regasification Terminal (RGT) project in Kedah, northwest Malaysia.
The contract will cover an assessment of regasification terminal configurations before the preferred solution is selected for the full FEED phase. Technip Energies will establish the project’s technical basis and support its development towards a final investment decision (FID).
The Yan RGT is being jointly developed by Gas Malaysia, Tokyo Gas Asia Pte. Ltd. and VTTI. The proposed terminal is designed to have a capacity of 6 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) and will incorporate an offshore floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), marine infrastructure, a subsea gas pipeline and an onshore receiving facility.
The project is intended to establish a new LNG entry point in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia, expanding the country’s natural gas import and regasification infrastructure.
According to Technip Energies, the development is expected to strengthen the resilience and flexibility of Malaysia’s natural gas supply while supporting increasing demand from industrial and power generation sectors.
The project is also expected to contribute to regional energy security by providing additional access to LNG supplies and diversifying the country’s gas supply infrastructure.
The FEED work will assess the most suitable configuration for the offshore regasification terminal before the selected concept progresses through detailed engineering. Establishing the technical basis at this stage will support subsequent investment decisions and the development of the associated marine, subsea and onshore infrastructure.
The planned 6 Mtpa facility would comprise an FSRU capable of receiving and regasifying LNG offshore, with the resulting natural gas transported through a subsea pipeline to an onshore receiving facility.
The Yan project forms part of the ongoing development of LNG infrastructure in Asia as countries seek to improve gas supply flexibility and meet demand from power generation and industrial users. For northern Peninsular Malaysia, the terminal is expected to provide an additional route for LNG imports and strengthen the region’s access to natural gas.
