November 27, 2017 [Petrol Plaza] - Viva Energy Australia officially opened Australia’s biggest crude oil tank at its Geelong Refinery in the state of Victoria. The A$50 million (US$ 38.16 million) tank can hold up to 100 million litres of crude oil, the equivalent of 40 Olympic swimming pools.

It is set to increase the company’s crude storage capacity by 40% and improve fuel supply in Victoria, said Thys Heyns, General Manager, Viva Energy Refining.

Aside from the oil tank, the company has also spent A$23 million (US$17.55 million) on fuel pumping station and A$4 million (US$3.05 million) on jet fuel gantry, which will boost fuel transported to Melbourne and Avalon.

The company also plans to build a bitumen export facility and a 25 million litre gasoline tank and carry out a A$7 million (US$5.34 million) revamp of its crude distillation unit furnace.

Viva Energy’s $300 million investment into the Geelong Refinery during the past three years represents a significant investment in traditional manufacturing across the region. With a workforce of around 700 at the refinery this is great news for regional Victorian jobs and workers,” said Richard Marles, Federal Member for Corio, who was present at the opening.
