September 14, 2026 [Storage Terminals Magazine]- Wood has secured a new $200 million, five-year contract from ExxonMobil PNG (EMPNG) to provide construction services for the ExxonMobil-operated PNG LNG Project in Papua New Guinea.
The contract will support brownfield project delivery across several key facilities, including the Hides Gas Conditioning Plant, the LNG plant at Caution Bay, approximately 700 kilometres of pipeline network, as well as associated well pads and flowlines. The work is intended to support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of infrastructure supplying LNG to customers across Asia.
More than 200 Wood personnel in Papua New Guinea will be involved in delivering the contract. Their scope of work will include project management, civil and structural construction, piping and mechanical works, and electrical and instrumentation services. Additional support services will include scaffolding, lifting and rigging.
Steve Nicol, chief operating officer of operations at Wood, said the company had supported ExxonMobil PNG in delivering safe and reliable operations for the PNG LNG Project for more than a decade.
He said the latest contract would see Wood contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of critical facilities supporting the project’s infrastructure, with a focus on asset integrity and the reliable and safe operation of the facilities.
Nicol also highlighted Wood’s commitment to supporting Papua New Guinea’s economic development through collaboration with clients, supply chain partners and local communities, including efforts to sustain and develop a skilled national workforce.
The contract further strengthens Wood’s longstanding relationship with ExxonMobil and its affiliates, with the companies having worked together globally for more than 85 years. Since 2013, Wood has provided engineering, procurement, construction and operational services on a range of complex energy projects in Papua New Guinea.
